Demi Moore - A Bitter Cougar?

Anne Bancroft in “The Graduate”. She’s a cougar. I get it.

Much older women on the hunt for younger men. She likes to wear a leopard bra..I guess.

We’ve somehow broadened the term to include all women. Any woman 35 or older who has the audacity—the sheer nerve!—to enjoy a normal an active sex life is suddenly…”A cougar”.

So she’s a “cougar” because at 35 and above she has actually convinced a man to sleep with her.  The message of course is that at 35 and above you are so repulsive to look at that the odds of you bagging a guy, any guy, is so outrageous that we’re going to invent a term to explain this freakish consensual encounter.

I find the term “cougar” repugnant and sexist. It implies women have nothing to offer but a 34 year old @!***bleep. After that better start getting your Botox shots because you’re “a cougar.”

There’s no derogatory term comparing men to large cats that hunt and kill their victims because they date younger women. In fact it’s the women who take the hit. They’re called “gold diggers”.

To my surprise, it turns out that many women want to be called “cougars”. Much like the media turned classes to teach women how to pole dance into an act of empowerment, the media is feeding us this line that it is somehow “empowering” to be, “a cougar.”

So a desperate 40 something MILF with fake boobs who drinks too much and prowls bars looking for “cubs” is in fact a positive role model we should all aspire to be.

I recently heard a commentator describing Demi Moore.  It was like they had uncovered an ancient Egyptian artifact. In hushed tones he said,” It’s remarkable that at 44 she looks so good!”

It was as if at 44 it was amazing she was able to walk and talk and maintain verbal skills and even feed herself.  I have been told this whole “cougar” thing began with Demi Moore. She’s a talented and beautiful woman who has a younger husband that adores her…and that’s weird right? So that makes her “a cougar”.

It makes me bitter.
